Finishing the Backyard Paradise

After months of planning and hard work, Roger and Crystal are finally able to relax and enjoy the backyard living space of their dreams.

Who needs to vacation anymore when you have paradise in your own backyard??

Speaking with both Roger and Crystal, it’s obvious they don’t have any regrets besides maybe waiting so long to start the process. They absolutely love their backyard! It’s perfect for hosting family and friends as well as lounging after work.

Crystal says,

“Without a doubt Roger swims every summer evening after work and falls asleep in the hammock”.

Roger says that the backyard allows him to truly relax at home as if he were on vacation.

Roger and Crystal agree that being able to create a relaxing outdoor space has been such a blessing. They are proud of how everything turned out and they enjoy every minute of it.

Increased Family Time

Family time has increased with yard games on the turf area, night swimming, grilling, and enjoying some great conversation around the fire. They were even nice enough so share their space with the entire Headings Brothers and their families for a night of fun and laughter.

Time to Execute the Plan

The planning process is FINALLY over (Woohoo!) and it is now time to execute the plan!

The execution was taking a bit longer than they both expected however they had a deadline to meet. They wanted everything done in time for their daughter’s graduation party, so it was time to crack the whip and get to work.

Roger began working some week nights after work as well as every Saturday and Sunday on this massive deck project. The time began creeping up on him and his son Michael jumped in to help him every chance he got. It wasn’t before too long that the whole family, brothers, sisters, cousins, and parents were all giving Roger a helping hand. It took all hands-on deck (no pun intended lol) to get the job done on time.

Once they finished framing the deck and installing the Timbertech flooring, they were able to move on to framing the outdoor kitchen, both pergolas, and a the slider door.

The family was able to work well together, setting up several different stations for everyone to get involved. Some people measured and cut, while others framed the pergolas and kitchen area. It was a crazy few weeks but they were able to complete the pergolas, the kitchen area, and get that slider installed (in fact Roger was able to complete the slider install himself :0).

The pergola over the kitchen area was different than most. It contained an enclosed roof made of shakes, and the posts, beams, and skirting were all burnt to add an extra “rustic” look to the pergola. Roger decided he didn’t want to purchase a countertop, but instead he wanted to make them out of concrete. It turned out beautifully! The kitchen was now ready for the electric and plumbing to be installed.

It was all coming together! The only question at this point was “Will we finish everything in time?”. They had all the major projects completed, however its all the “little” details that can get you!

3 Signs of Rotting Wood

Most areas that need repaired are noticeable, but sometimes the small repairs get pushed to the back burner. For example, people must act fast if a baseball comes through the window or a pipe busts leaving water everywhere. These are noticeable repairs that should get done sooner rather than later.

Unlike major pipe bursts or a damaged window, rotting wood can go completely unnoticed (it’s very sneaky). Rotting wood is no joke. It can be messy, annoying to handle, and it can become dangerous if not taken care of properly. Rot can spread far and wide!

(The pictures above show cases some unnoticed rotting found under the decking boards)

There is nothing wrong with a wooden deck, cedar siding or trim. In fact, we install it. However, it does matter how it is installed (was it done correctly?), how old it is and was the wood treated?

3 Precautions to Take for Rotting Wood

If your wooden deck, window trim, or siding is starting to age you may want to take precautions and take a look at the wood.

  1. Does it appear to be soft in areas?
  2. Does it look discolored?
  3. Are pieces crumbling off?

These are all good signs that you might be dealing with rot, but on a good note, we can fix it for you! 😊

For your safety, we advise you to get it looked at sooner rather than later. We don’t want any injuries to occur as well as more intensive rot formation. We want to stop the spread while its minor.

If you think you might be dealing with some rot you can reach us at 614-733-4401 or via email hbi.natalie1@gmail.com. We would love to set up a meeting with you and talk to you about your options in repairing the damage.

3 Ideas to Spruce Up Your Outdoor Living Space

As we find ourselves at home more and more, you may begin to look around and find projects you want done. The weather is finally starting to look nice and warm up. You might be thinking of different ways you could use your outdoor space. You may want to relax out in the sun reading a book while your kids play, but you have no where to do so. Below you will find a few different ideas for your outdoor space.

1. Deck

In the spring, summer, and fall you can enjoy an outdoor living space. You can add a table and a few seating arrangements for guests to have dinner and company while enjoying the outdoors. The deck would also give you an area to relax while your kids play outside.

2. Pergola

Maybe you already have a great deck but want to add something to dress it up a little bit- something like a Pergola. Pergolas are beautiful and are such accents pieces for a deck. A pergola does not have to cover your entire deck. You could have the pergola cover a portion of the deck, giving the deck some dimension.

3. Screen-in-porch

An all-seasons room can be built from the ground up or a deck can be transformed into an all-seasons room. An all-seasons room provides a nice space for people to get some fresh air without having to go “outside”. These spaces can be dressed up or dressed down. For example, you could add some ceiling fans, lights, a fireplace, TV etc. Maybe you want a place for football games. An all-seasons room is perfect for that! No matter what the weather is like you can be out there. If it rains you are covered, if it’s a little chilly you can bring blankets, if you want to yell but the baby is sleeping inside, YOU STILL CAN!

Details

You can always add and put your twist on any outdoor space you decide to build or transform with decorations. You can make it “homey” however that may look for you. Maybe that’s hanging some lights, getting some cozy outdoor furniture like couches, tables, and chairs and possibly throwing on a few accent pillows.

These are all areas (besides decorating) that we can help you with. We can even provide you with a 3D

drawing of what you would like done. This helps you really picture it. We can change colors, materials, sizes…anything really. If you are interested feel free to contact our office today: 614-733-4401 or via email hbi.natalie1@gmail.com .
