3 Signs of Rotting Wood

Most areas that need repaired are noticeable, but sometimes the small repairs get pushed to the back burner. For example, people must act fast if a baseball comes through the window or a pipe busts leaving water everywhere. These are noticeable repairs that should get done sooner rather than later.

Unlike major pipe bursts or a damaged window, rotting wood can go completely unnoticed (it’s very sneaky). Rotting wood is no joke. It can be messy, annoying to handle, and it can become dangerous if not taken care of properly. Rot can spread far and wide!

(The pictures above show cases some unnoticed rotting found under the decking boards)

There is nothing wrong with a wooden deck, cedar siding or trim. In fact, we install it. However, it does matter how it is installed (was it done correctly?), how old it is and was the wood treated?

3 Precautions to Take for Rotting Wood

If your wooden deck, window trim, or siding is starting to age you may want to take precautions and take a look at the wood.

  1. Does it appear to be soft in areas?
  2. Does it look discolored?
  3. Are pieces crumbling off?

These are all good signs that you might be dealing with rot, but on a good note, we can fix it for you! 😊

For your safety, we advise you to get it looked at sooner rather than later. We don’t want any injuries to occur as well as more intensive rot formation. We want to stop the spread while its minor.
